A former Ridgefield woman accused of trying to poison an ex-boyfriend and obstructing another man’s efforts to establish paternity has rejected a plea deal calling for 12 to 15 years in prison.
Kristen Hogan rejected the offer, which would have required her to plead guilty to one count of attempted murder and one count of perjury.
Under the proposal, Hogan would receive a 20-year sentence, suspended after she served 12 to 15 years, followed by five years of probation.
Hogan currently faces two counts of attempted murder and one count of interfering in one case, along with evidence tampering and three counts of perjury in a separate case.
She is accused of trying to kill the father of her youngest child in August 2025 while the two were involved in a custody battle. State police say she spiked an open bottle of wine at his Ridgefield home with a chemical found in antifreeze, causing him to be hospitalized.
The other charges stem from a yearslong paternity dispute involving a man who claimed to be the biological father of Hogan’s two other children. Police accuse Hogan of providing false information during the proceedings and sabotaging efforts to establish paternity, including bringing her nephew instead of her son to court-ordered DNA testing.
Hogan’s attorneys, Mark Sherman and Ryan O’Neill, said choosing a trial at this stage of the case is often routine.
“Kristen continues to be presumed innocent,” Sherman said. “Today she rejected the State's offer, which simply means that there is more to come.”
Hogan has been on home confinement with GPS monitoring since posting a $1 million bond. She is pregnant and due shortly.
