A man was stabbed and left to die in the courtyard of an apartment complex in the Bronx, according to police.
The stabbing happened on Bedford Park Boulevard and Decatur Avenue around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say they responded to a 911 call of an assault in the courtyard of 2953 Decatur Ave., and discovered 23-year-old Daniel Peña lying unconscious on the ground with at least two stab wounds to his lower abdomen.
They say Pena was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A man who says he has known Peña all his life said the stabbing started as an argument and turned into a group of people attacking Peña. The man says Peña tried to run down the block to his home but didn't make it. He added that Peña has a 4-month-old daughter.
A vigil now sits in front of the victim's building.
No arrests have been made, and police say the investigation is ongoing.
