Family, friends and coworkers gathered at the firehouse of Engine Company 60 in Mott Haven Saturday to welcome home five firefighters who returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.
Every year, members of Ladder 17 hold a memorial service to remember those firefighters who lost their lives. This year, however, New York's Bravest from the Bronx had a chance to honor their colleagues who survived.
"Coming back home [means] a lot of things that you miss, little things like a meal or just sitting down and being able to relax with your friends," says firefighter Gregory Dicembri.
Some of the firefighters who returned home Saturday will head back to Iraq within a few months. They will be joined by another member of Engine 60, who recently signed up for his first tour of duty.
