The New Jersey PATH Commuter Train 745 that was found underneath the World Trade Center was brought to the Shoreline Trolley Museum Thursday.
The train car was one of two found completely intact under the World Trade Center after the Sept. 11 attack. Both were supposed to pick up passengers that day.
The car was initially expected to be installed in the 9/11 Memorial Museum but was too large for the site, museum staff say.
East Haven Fire Chief Douglas Jackson was a firefighter during the 2001 attack, and marched alongside Thursday as the train made its way to the museum.
"I think the tangible effect of having the actual car there will really put it in perspective of what happened that day," he says.
The public will be able to view the car after inspection, and a dedication ceremony is planned for 2016.
