It might not quite look like it, but The SoNo Collection in Norwalk is set to open in less than three weeks. News 12 got an early look inside the new mall.
Construction began in May 2017 and work is continuing around the clock. Brookfield Properties, the owner of the mall, says it will open Oct. 11.
The senior general manager dismissed any idea that date will get pushed back.
The new 700,000-square-foot mall is going up at a time when many brick-and-mortar stores are struggling across the country.
Brookfield Properties says the key in the 21st century is designing a mall that is not just a place to shop, but one where people will want to hang out.
The Sono Collection will have free WiFi and three community spaces, which includes an interactive art installation and an outdoor garden on the third floor.
As for the sights inside, Senior General Manager Matt Seebeck says 90 percent of the property is leased.
Nordstrom is among the first retailers who will welcome shoppers, with more stores including Bloomingdale's opening in November and through the beginning of 2020.
Other retailers include Sephora, Victoria's Secret, Abercrombie and Fitch, the Apple Store, H&M, and Bath and Body Works.
Entertainment venue Pinstripes will make its Connecticut debut there along with several restaurants.
Brookfield Properties says they did extensive traffic studies already and will do additional ones once the mall opens. Officials say they have also worked with the city's traffic engineer.
