AAA is providing drivers with some cold weather travel tips after Connecticut was hit with a winter storm and frigid cold temperatures.
They says more than half a million car crashes happen in winter weather and about 2,000 are deadly.
A winter storm left some icy patches on roads and  downed power lines following below freezing temperatures.
Officials at AAA in Fairfield off Kings Highway recommend drivers keep an emergency kit in their car.
They say the kit should include; a phone charger, flashlight with extra batteries, road flares or reflectors, a first aid kit,
water and snacks, jumper cables, an ice scraper, a shovel, sand or salt, and extra coats and blankets.
