Uber and Lyft drivers who may have been underpaid are being urged by New York Attorney General Letitia James to file a claim to receive back money before the end of the month.

According to James, $328 million in back payments were secured in a Nov. 2023 settlement. The investigation found that “Uber and Lyft withheld funds from drivers and failed to provide valuable benefits.”

“Rideshare drivers help keep New York moving and deserve full and fair compensation for their hard work,” said Attorney General James in prepared remarks. “I am proud to have secured this landmark settlement with Uber and Lyft and to be returning these funds to the drivers that rightfully earned them.”

A news release from the AG says that “more than 100,000 drivers throughout New York are eligible to receive settlement funds and the benefits afforded to them under these historic settlements. As of December 18, over 88,000 claims have already been filed. To file a claim for backpay, drivers can visit the Uber or Lyft settlement portals.”

Claims must be filed on or before Jan. 31.
