AJ Perez has officially been appointed Bridgeport's chief of police.
Perez, who was the acting chief of police for two years, was officially appointed by Mayor Joe Ganim Tuesday night during a ceremony.
He beat out Bridgeport Police Capt. Roderick Porter and an assistant chief of police from New Haven, Luiz Casanova, during a nationwide search.
Perez will serve the city for the next five years.
