(AP) - A Bridgeport man who was given the death sentence in December was supposed to die by lethal injection Monday, but appeals have put that off.
Bridgeport Superior Court Judge Robert Devlin in December ordered Russell Peeler Jr. to be executed by lethal injection on March 10, 2008. However, lengthy appeals will likely postpone that indefinitely.
According to the Judicial Branch Web site the pending appeal was filed on Dec. 26, 2007.
Peeler is a former drug kingpin convicted of ordering the murders of Leroy "B.J." Brown Jr., 8, and the boy's mother, Karen Clarke, in 1999.
A jury of six men and six women decided in October that Peeler should die for his crime.
