Aquarion Water Company announces drought trigger for Eastern Fairfield County
The water company is asking customers to voluntarily conserve water.

The Aquarion Water Company announced on Monday that Eastern Fairfield County reached its first drought trigger of the year.
Aquarion says that over the past year, there has been a rainfall deficit of more than 13 inches.
The water company is now asking its customers to voluntarily conserve water to help the system recover. It currently sits at 65% of total capacity.
Towns asked to conserve water include:
Bethel
Bridgeport
Easton
Fairfield
Monroe
Newtown
Redding
Shelton
Stratford
Trumbull
Weston
Westport
Wilton
Aquarion says despite recent snowfall, the state needs substantially more precipitation to offset the ongoing deficit of water.
“It is important for all of our customers to assist in this effort, to help ensure our Eastern Fairfield County system recovers for spring and summer,” said Lucy Teixeira, Aquarion President.
To make a difference, Aquarion has some recommendations for residents.
Take shorter showers
Run full dishwasher loads
Turn off the tap unless in use
Regularly check for and repair leaks in faucets, toilets and pipes.
Aquarion says Eastern Fairfield County towns not already in its twice-a-week irrigation schedule will be added.
