A Newington man is accused of attempting to sexually assault a handicapped woman at the Connecticut Post Mall over the weekend.
Police say the incident happened Sunday afternoon and a shopper helped to stop the attack. The shopper called police after she noticed a man forcing himself onto a visibly upset woman by kissing her and touching her breasts. The observant shopper then kept police on the phone as she followed the man and woman.
But when the woman began crying, the shopper stepped in and yelled for the man to stop.
"We did determine the male was not familiar with the female and the female was in fact over 18 physically; her mental capacity was that of a much younger child," says Officer Vaughan Dumas, of the Milford Police Department.
Sergio Presa-Leon, 21, has been charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and breach of peace in the incident. He is being held on $10,000 bond.
