Family members of a 15-year-old accused of murdering a man over a spilled cup of coffee say the teen has been misrepresented by the media.

Marquest Hall's aunt came to the defense of her nephew, saying he's shy, funny and artistic.

Hall made his second appearance in court Tuesday. He's accused of fatally stabbing 52-year-old Antonio Muralles outside a Bedford Street McDonald's in Stamford on March 11. Investigators say Muralles accidentally spilled a cup of coffee on Hall, which sparked the attack.

The stabbing marked the first murder of 2015 in Stamford.

Hall is being tried as an adult. Hall's attorney, Ryan O'Neill, says the fact that his client is being charged as an adult is an enormous issue in this case.

O'Neill says he believes that when all the evidence is shown, the public's perception of Hall will change.

James McLamb, 22, of New Haven, is also being charged in connection to Muralles' murder. Investigators say McLamb punched the victim after he was stabbed.

A third person is charged with hindering prosecution because he ran from the scene of the crime with evidence, according to police. That person is 17 years old.

Muralles was a Guatemalan native who lived in Connecticut for more than 20 years. His niece described him as a hardworking family man.

Hall is due back in court April 23.
