A back-to-school event took place on Stratford Avenue in Bridgeport on Saturday.
Organizer Andre Baker said he has hold the free get-together for decades with the idea to let the public know about a wide array of resources available.
He said a big part of the event is to encourage residents of the Greater Bridgeport Area to consider careers as police officers or firefighters.
"It's a win-win situation. People that live here, that have grown up in the community, they understand, they invest in their community, they're stakeholders -- why not have them protect and serve?" Baker explained.
He added that the event also helps anyone who wants to start a business, get healthcare or hunt for a job.
