"There's been a shift with technology, we use Chromebooks as much as we can, utilize Google docs to type instead of write," Lisa Luppino says.

Luppino says she still teaches handwriting, but that more children are not using it enough and then they forget how to write.

She says students have difficulty identifying upper and lowercase letters, and even how to properly hold a pencil.

"Even their fine motor skills, which is something important, they're not using as often if they're typing or texting instead," Luppino says.

But students in Luppino's class agree that the only way to stick with handwriting is to practice it.
