Food prices will make it more expensive than ever to enjoy a summer barbecue this year.
Residents are already reporting its impact. The Davis family, of Stamford, gets together at Sherwood Island State Park every summer for a Memorial Day barbecue. Carlton Davis says the cost of eating for 30 has gone from $500 last year to about $800.
The price of hamburger buns has risen 17 percent in the past year. Soda costs have gone up 10 percent and hot dogs are up 17 percent.
The Davis clan has one suggestion to cut costs for those planning big barbecues: ask guests to contribute something.
