Sand castle enthusiasts grabbed their shovels and hit the beach Saturday for the 42nd annual Milford Arts Council Sand Sculpture Contest.
Milford Arts Council and Milford Bank have sponsored the Walnut Beach event every year since its inception.
This year, there were more than 50 sand sculptors and hundreds of revelers who came to watch them build their masterpieces.
"We're very fortunate to live here because the sand and water, it just brings you together," MaryEllen Mohring said.
Lorie Lewis is the marketing director for the Milford Arts Council. She says whether you're a spectator or crafting a sculpture, the family-friendly atmosphere is a great time to be expressive.
"We are the heart of the arts, and…we like to believe we're the heart of the community," Lewis said.
