When it comes to news from New Jersey's best beaches, there's no need to always travel down to the southern part of our state. When news 12 New Jersey's Tony Caputo is in beautiful Searight this morning and Tony tell us about the transformation that he bright has made over these years. Well, it's been fantastic, right. Especially following Superstorm Sandy and the damage that was done here. We didn't get into Seabright for a week after Superstorm Sandy and since then, what a rebound, it is fantastic and one of the great rebounds in this town is this restaurant, Alice's kitchen. Alice Gaffney is joining us. She is the owner here is fantastic little restaurant open for breakfast and I'll tell you I am killing some of this Irish, a bread stone. You can't beat it. Alice. Thanks for joining us. Good morning. Good morning. Welcome to Sere. Thank you so much. You got started just after Sandy. Correct. Yes. The following August 11 years, actually, last week, you've been going strong ever since. Been going strong. This I soda bread certainly helps with that, doesn't it? Thank you. Yes. It's one of our popular dishes that we make here every morning, she asked me if I Irish soda bread and I said, don't, you know, around ST Patrick's Day, my wife will bring, you know, the whole loaf of the soda bread. And man, I just devour that stuff constantly. Sim always gets mad at me because I eat so much and you never gain a pound. Well, whatever, I'm enjoying every ounce of Irish soda bread I get. But Alice, what is this delicious breakfast you have here is Irish breakfast. All our meats are imported from Ireland. It's one of my very popular dishes. People come from North Jersey. Even down here to get an Irish breakfast, it's a traditional Irish breakfast with Irish bacon which we call rashers, um Irish sausage, which is called Bangers and Irish pudding and your um beans that are also imported and eggs any style. So you're, you're bringing it all from elsewhere. Fantastic Iris. At breakfast. You can't beat it. I mean, Alice. Thank you. Great job. We'll talk again in about 30 minutes. We'll get another breakfast dish. The weather stinks today. It stinks. So you pop in here, you sit down, you grab a coffee, some Irish breakfast and then it's all of a sudden a sunny day. Well, when it comes to News 12, New Jersey's Best Beaches, there's no need to always travel down to the southern part of our state. Well, news 12 New Jersey's Tony Caputo is in beautiful sea bright this morning. And Tony, we know you're at a local favorite place. But Simon and I were talking, wondering if maybe you finished your third breakfast already. No, if I had time I would have three breakfasts. You're right. I finished my one, my delicious Irish soda bread, scone. It was fantastic. Alice Gaffney is the owner of Alice's kitchen here in Sea bright and Alice. We uh first of all, thank you. Fantastic. Enjoying the coffee. Great way to start our best beaches segment. Now we have a producer. Mackenzie. Mackenzie is a young lady who has a boyfriend in Ireland lives in Ireland. So that's what you call a long distance relationship and she says she needs to get here because she wants to have the original Irish breakfast like you're serving here. We saw that one last time. The Bangers. And what have you, what else do you have out here for? We have um hash corned beef hash and eggs, which we make fresh here every day. We cook our corned beef and then we make our own fresh hash. It's a very, very popular dish also. So you basically brought everything that you are from Ireland and brought it right here to Sere. Wow, tried some of it. But you've been going now. 11 years. So you're doing something, right? 11 years. Yes. 11 years in August. Yes. This month we hear about Mackenzie and a person like Mackenzie who loves this style breakfast. It obviously hits home with New Jersey. Yes, it does. Yes. But there's a, yes, a lot of people come here for the breakfast for the Irish breakfast. People love our hash and we make fresh muffin scones every day. We know about those scones. Those are good. You were telling me earlier that this particular summer here in Seabright anyway has been very busy. Very, very busy. Yes, very busy. And that's obviously good for business. And I'll tell you this, I mean, I talked to a lot of people up and down the Jersey shore and they have not been, tell me what you just told me. And that's one of the reasons I always say Seabright is that most northern beach, you don't really count Sandy Hook. It's a park, right? But so Seabright is like the number one stop when you're coming from the north down to the Jersey shore. And I think that's paying off for you this year. Because folks are saying, let's go to Seabright. They are. And the weather has been quite good apart from the last few days, but the weather has been great and yes, there have been record numbers in town. Alice. You've been great. When it comes to news of New Jersey's best beaches, there's no need to always travel all the way down to the southern part of the state news. 12 New Jersey's Tony Caputo is in beautiful sea bright this morning in Ma County where Tony safety always comes first in a variety of ways. Is that true? Absolutely. Look, this is best beaches and we like to have fun, but we need to stay safe as well. That's why we got the guys from Seabright Ocean rescue with us and they are rolling and ready to go with a simulated rescue. Here. We have Dan Maloney. He's a training officer joining us and Dan, what are we looking at and what are they working on today? So right now we're doing a San home collapse drill. It's to simulate when a patron here digs a hole that's too deep and the sand then comes on top of them and collapses on them. We have unfortunately covered this happening up and down the coast over the years. You need to be prepared for it. You do. We like to educate the public first, try to prevent it as much as possible. But when in doubt, we are prepared if it is to ever occur, what do you tell folks? Because like, I, I will be on the beach a lot and I still see them digging holes and the parents letting kids go in the holes. What do you tell folks? So we tell them, do not dig the hole deeper than the shortest person's knee. So that's our role here on the beach. Um Looks like right now they've already located the victim's head. So first key or first objective in a drill like this is to locate the victim, locate where their head is. You want to clear their airway, make sure that they're able to breathe. And then after that, you then want to remove the victim from the environment. And this is obviously you need to go through this training on a regular basis. So you're prepared because when it's happening, that's an adrenaline flow and you need to know what you're doing. It is, yes, we like to establish a goal of five minutes. Call it like the golden five minutes of us locating the victim, extricating the victim and then delivering emergency care. Now again, you have a lot of members of the crew out here. This is basically how it would work, right? You call in, everybody, everybody come running in, driving in like they did earlier. Yeah, this is one of the worst scenarios we could find on our beach. So this is when we get all personnel that we have all of our assets available and we do the best that we can. That is fantastic work and we really appreciate it. We appreciate all you and all the men and women do up and down our coastline each and every summer because this is not easy work. Just staying in shape is hard being ready for an emergency like this. Well, this is the training you're looking at it right now. News twelve's best beaches in Seabright again. They need to be ready to go and they are indeed ready to go. Ladies. When it comes to use of New Jersey's best beaches, there's no need to always travel all the way down to the southern part of our state. News of New Jersey. Tony Caputo is in beautiful sea right this morning and county where Tony, so safety always comes first and that's in a variety of ways. If you choose Seabright as your beach, I guarantee you you're gonna be safe and Maloney is here joining us. He's a training officer with Seabright Ocean Rescue. And uh again, you're gonna show us another great rescue training exercise that you're doing here right now. Tell us what's going on. All right. So right here we're gonna be doing a uh a jet ski rescue. A jet ski is a piece of equipment that we use to perform rescues that may be out of reach for the typical lifeguard. Usually if we're having to make a rescue miles down the beach at an unguarded beach, if we need to assist a vessel in distress, it could be miles off the beach. So this is a tool for us to use to quickly get to a victim as fast as possible. I tell you I'm fascinated by this. I mean, you have to have somebody out in the water. Rudy can focus on that person. They have been out in the water as part of this training exercise. What's happening right now? So, on the back of the jet ski, we have what's called a rescue sled. And what we do is we have a rescue swimmer on the back of the s they go, they roll off the sled, they pick up the victim and then they quickly take them to shore. And in this case, I mean, he's got to do it in a way that's safe as well. Right? He sees that he's still above water but he can't rush it. He's got to make sure the pickup is a safe 1 100%. So especially on a day like this, this rescue is very technical. Um Right now we have our rescue swimmer swimming out to the uh jet ski to then hop on that rescue sled and they'll perform the uh rescue for the victim. You know, this is one of those cases where I wish uh we were doing like a, a video podcast of some kind. So we had all the time in the world to show this f is a weed rescue. But in this case, we don't, but it's good to see that you guys are training in this weather day is a perfect training exercise 100%. Yeah, training on bad days. Like this makes the easy days look like a piece of cake. That's fantastic. Hey, guys, Best Beach is Seabright. You can't beat it. Our northernmost beach and you know, you'll be safe coming here when you got dedicated men and women like this. Always training and ready to go. Well, we're live in Seabright. Tony Caputo is in beautiful sea bright this morning in Ma County where beaches safety always comes first. So Tony, we have seen some real action this morning from the sea bright ocean rescue. These guys, I'll tell you they're doing a great job out here right now. Dan Maloney is with us. He's a training expert here with Seabright Ocean Rescue and, and Dan, we're gonna watch them do another rescue here right now. Go ahead guys do good. That's it. So right now we are uh currently simulating a rescue of an unconscious victim. So we have our one rescuer out in the water. He's made a signal to the rescuers on shore that the victim's now unconscious. So we send back up into the water. It's important to keep the victim's head out of the water for obvious reasons. Don't want them swallowing any water and then we high tail it up to the beach. Did I mean, look just swimming in these conditions is hard enough for anybody making rescues in these conditions. If you're not training, you're not getting this job done. You have to train. Exactly. We like to train every day and this is the perfect conditions for that. 100%. This is uh this is what we thrive in. This is what we love. You know, it's like days like this, that we're actually blessed. You know, we're able to use it as an opportunity. Patrons usually aren't on the beach on days like this. So, you know, we, we use it the best that we can. Yeah, I mean, I think it's something that those of us who love coming to the beach on nice days need to appreciate days like this one because this is when you're getting ready to make these rescues 100%. I mean, what are they doing? Now? They get them up to the beach and what's the next step? So right now we get the victim up to dry sand and then um after that, they then want to assess the victim. So they check for uh they then check for response and this if he's breathing, if he has a pulse and now we've now transitioned over here. We uh I transition over to here with this. They then hop right into CPR. So they've checked if the victim has a pulse. If they're breathing, if they don't have a pulse, they're not breathing. We're jumping right into CPR. We get the ad on as fast as possible. This is our trainer 80. So it's, you know, it's got sand all over, it's gonna fall all over the place. Well, Dan, this is great stuff and seeing the team work, I'll tell you, puts us all at ease when we want to go to our best beach. And we are in Seri today. You guys are doing a fantastic job.
