State police began their crackdown on big rigs on interstates Tuesday.
Police say hundreds of detailed inspections will happen in "high-crash" areas, including the area near the Greenwich weigh station. Officials want to make sure tractor-trailers meet safety standards.
"The aim of the effort is to educate the public, educate drivers, educate trucking companies on what's required and to hold them to the highest standards to, quite simply, save lives," says Robert Ward, commissioner of the state Department of Motor Vehicles.
The inspections will take place at weigh stations through Thursday.
