A new bill by Sen. Chris Murphy will help more kids attend summer camp.
The Summer For All Act introduced Friday would allot $1 billion a year on summer camps nationwide.
The goal of the legislation is to provide high-quality summer enrichment opportunities to children who otherwise would not have access to these programs.
The introduction of the bill comes as funding from American Rescue Plan, which has helped thousands of children in the state attend summer camp, is set to run out.
According to Murphy's office, back in 2021, he worked to ensure the plan contained funding for states to set aside at least 1% of all education-related funding to promote summer enrichment programming.
A new survey from Gallup showed 24 million children in the U.S. did not participate in any structured summer programs last year.
