The bishop of the Bridgeport Diocese met with parishioners of the St. John?s Roman Catholic Church in Darien Tuesday in a show of support for a popular priest.
Father Michael Madden has admitted to hiring a private investigator to look into the finances of the church?s pastor, Father Michael Jude Fay, without the knowledge of the diocese. Father Fay is now accused of stealing more than $200,000 from the church to support an affair with another man.
Many parishioners say they are worried about Father Madden and fear he may be punished. Bishop William Lori says Madden will stay with his church, but that he will eventually take a sabbatical. Churchgoers say they are concerned with what will happen after that.
