A Connecticut native is receiving football's highest honor.
Dwight Freeney, of Bloomfield, will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this afternoon.
Freeney played collegiately at Syracuse University. He was drafted 11th overall by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2002 NFL Draft and spent much of his career with them.
In his 16-year career, the defensive end recorded 125 ½ sacks and won a Super Bowl.
He was a vital player to the Colts team that took home the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl XLI.
During his high school years - Freeney set a state record for most career sacks although it has since been broken.
He is one of six Connecticut natives enshrined in Canton, along with New Haven's Floyd Little and Greenwich's Steve Young.
