A body was found inside a car that witnesses say exploded and burned Thursday on a quiet stretch of Frenchtown Road, according to Bridgeport police.
Neighbor Jillian Audette, a senior at nearby Sacred Heart University, said her roommate called to say she heard an explosion late Thursday morning.
"She said it sounded muffled but loud - and when I drove up moments later I saw a big fire," Audette said.
The car could be clearly seen at the edge of a wooded area across from a row of homes.
Bridgeport Police Detective Jeff Holtz said the medical examiner will be investigating the cause of death.
