The bookkeeper who helped bring one Darien pastor's alleged embezzling to the parish's attention says she is resigning. Earlier this summer, Bethany D'Erario and associate pastor Father Michael Madden hired an investigator who discovered that Father Michael Fay had allegedly embezzled money from St. John Roman Catholic Church over a six-year period. The money, which an internal audit later revealed to be as high as $1.4 million, was allegedly used for extravagant trips and shopping sprees. Soon after the news broke, Father Fay stepped down from his post. D'Erario?s lawyer, Mickey Sherman, says since that time certain people within the church have made the work environment uncomfortable. Sherman added that D'Edario's resignation has nothing to do with the parishioners, who have been wonderful to her throughout the ordeal.
