An effort to clean up the streets of Bridgeport will bring new trash bins and trash trucks to the city.
Mayor John Fabrizi leads the new initiative to keep streets cleaner. Every homeowner in the city will receive a new trash bin, called toters. They are made of recyclable materials, can sustain any weather condition and can hold up to 96 gallons. In addition to the bins, the Department of Sanitation will receive new sanitation trucks, equipped with special lifts. This feature was implemented to address the amount of workers? compensation complaints due to heavy daily lifting. With the new trucks, workers will not have to manually load the garbage.
It will take the city up to five years to distribute the toters to nearly 50,000 homes throughout Bridgeport.
