A program at Summerfield United Methodist Church in Bridgeport is providing kids with guidance and assistance as they prepare for college.
"We believe that, fundamentally, education is a bridge to the future," says Pastor Herron Gaston.
Gaston started the Youth with a Purpose program, which helps students with science and math skills, job preparedness and filling out college applications.
"We've helped over 100 students either gain placement into college or helped them with the college admissions process," Gaston says.
The program has helped people like Rodrick Spence, who says he wasn't planning on getting a higher education. But now he's attending UConn and says he plans on finishing his graduate studies at Yale.
Gaston says he wants to further expand the program within the next few years.
