Hordes of Bridgeport residents lined up to vote Tuesday as officials say this is one of the biggest turnouts for voting they’ve ever seen.
City Councilwoman Maria Pereira, who represents the district, says Tuesday's turnout may actually surpass the numbers seen back in 2008 with the candidacy of former President Barack Obama.
Pereira says young voters, Black voters and seniors are turning out in huge numbers. She says the top polling places in the city have been John Winthrop, Hooker, John F. Kennedy, Dunbar, Wilbur Cross and Luis Marin schools.
"It's been a very, very busy day," says Ty Bird, of Bridgeport. "I mean, the numbers are the biggest I have ever seen it. I have worked the polls here at JFK school in the 138th district. There are so many people coming out, people are excited, it's high emotions, there is a lot of different issues... but people are not turning around and turning back."
Pereira also says there has been a big turnout at Black Rock School.
