News 12 Connecticut spent the day Friday talking with people whose lives were impacted by a massive factory fire in Bridgeport.
Officials say about 400 people were evacuated from their homes for several hours, and about 1,400 residents temporarily lost power. Cheryl Foreman says she refused to leave her house, even though her vinyl siding was melting off. In the end, her home was spared.
Casandra Degro ended up in the hospital for smoke inhalation. Though she was not seriously hurt, Degro says it was a close call.
Justino Calderon says the fire forced him to stay home from work Friday to care for his family.
Considering the intensity of the flames, some say it is a miracle that nobody was killed.
Officials say only a couple of the families who were evacuated have not been able to return to their homes. Several people in the area who do not have insurance to cover property damage told News 12 the experience has inspired them to get some.
