A Bridgeport family has started a petition to alert city officials of what they are calling "an emergency housing crisis" affecting thousands of families.
James Bembury says his family is on the verge of being homeless after their house burned down three years ago. Since that time, Bembury says they've been unable to get into a stable living situation due to a lack of affordable housing in the city.
The petition is circulating to let Mayor Joe Ganim know about the housing situation in Bridgeport.
Bembury says he and his wife both work and do not receive any help from the government. He says they are facing eviction at the end of the month.
Ganim says he will read the petition carefully and is doing everything in his power to address the shortage of affordable housing in the city.
