Bridgeport FD reports about 20 heroin overdoses a month
The Bridgeport Fire Department says the heroin epidemic is growing so fast that it's dealing with up to 20 overdoses a month. In each of those cases, crews are using Narcan to treat the individual.

The Bridgeport Fire Department says the heroin epidemic is growing so fast that it's dealing with up to 20 overdoses a month.
In each of those cases, crews are using Narcan to treat the individual. Narcan is an emergency nasal spray that can reverse the effects of an overdose.
The fire department pays $38 for each dose of Narcan. The deputy chief worries that it could get more expensive after a few high-profile incidents involving the prices of life-saving drugs spiking.
Drug treatment counselors say heroin abuse is spiking all over southwestern Connecticut, even in wealthy towns, because the drug is cheap and there aren't enough treatment beds for addicts.
