Bridgeport city leaders gathered at Seaside Park on Tuesday to honor first responders who rescued three people from a capsized boat on July 5.

The Bridgeport Fire and Police Departments were recognized for their quick response and coordination during the rescue.

All three people on board were rescued and treated for minor injuries.

"Three members of the public were saved because of the seamless collaboration of all of Bridgeport emergency services," said Deputy Fire Chief Mark Cody. "I couldn't be prouder as the chief of operations for the successful outcome of this operation. Job well done."

The news conference also served as a reminder for the public to practice boating and water safety.
