Members of the Red Cross' emergency team will return to a Deer Park apartment complex that caught fire Sunday afternoon, displacing dozens of tenants.

So far, the agency said it was helping eight people, including one child, but said residents from 56 apartments in the complex are going to be displaced for at least the next few days due to a combination of smoke and water damage and until fire officials can make sure everything is safe.

The fire started at the Maple Crest Garden Apartment complex at 467 Baldwin Path in Deer Park yesterday, around noon.

Deer Park fire officials said it took about 75 firefighters just under an hour to get the fire out.

One firefighter was hospitalized, though every resident was able to get out safely.

This same building in the complex caught fire back in 2023. Several residents who were affected by that fire still lived in the building when Sunday's fire started.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
