Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim says the city is investigating ways to pay for the return of school resource officers whose jobs were recently cut by the Board of Education.
Ganim tells News 12 Connecticut the city is investigating the possibility of using grant money to pay for school resource officers to protect students.
The district eliminated funding for five school resource officers. A fight at Bassick High School on Oct. 8 sparked concerns among parents and the renewed effort to restore their jobs.
School board member Maria Pereira says she would support any effort by the city to bring the officers back using grant funding. However, she says similar efforts in the past have failed.
Ganim says he should know within a week or two if grant funding is a practical option.
