Bridgeport community leaders gathered Monday evening to discuss how to tackle the problem of violence in the city after a weekend that saw two murders.
They say the problem has become too much for the city's police officers to handle, and they are going to appeal for state police to intervene.
They say the focus of Monday's meeting will be to find a strategy to increase safety in the streets.
A city spokesman says discussions with state police have been held to ask state troopers to patrol the city.
State police say that an agreement between state officials must be made before they can step in.
Community leaders say that they plan on rallying at the State Police Troop G in Bridgeport on Tuesday to stress the importance of state police intervention.
