Bridgeport man critically injured in New Jersey car crash reunited with family
A Bridgeport man critically injured in a car crash in New Jersey was reunited with his family Friday.
Jairo Mandu, 62, was in the crash back in April and had been in a coma for two weeks. Police say a Ford F-250 lost control and plowed into Mandu's 2008 Subaru Forester on the Jersey Turnpike just outside of Newark.
He had just celebrated his 40th anniversary with his wife, Ione.
Mandu was confined to University Hospital in New Jersey for a month and a half and was unable to have visitors due to the pandemic.
The family says initially Mandu, a grandfather, was not expected to live, so they thought they would never get to see him again. His condition suddenly began to get better two weeks ago.
A parade to welcome Mandu home was held Saturday afternoon. The family thanked all the front line medical workers at University Hospital in New Jersey who helped save Mandu's life.
