Monroe police are warning people about the dangers of riding all-terrain vehicles following the death of a Bridgeport man in a crash over the weekend.
News 12 Connecticut is told the victim, 26-year-old John Compton, was driving an ATV on Turkey Roost Road at around 6 p.m. Saturday when he hit a curb. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police believe Compton was family friends with a 6-year-old and 2-year-old who were also injured in the accident. News 12 is told both girls were treated at the hospital and were sent home.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but police say the road where the accident happened is very narrow and has sharp turns.
Police say it can't be said enough that ATVs are illegal to ride on the road and that they cannot be considered similar to a car. Meanwhile, investigators say they are looking into the victim's experience riding ATVs.
Compton's family declined to comment on camera, but News 12 has learned that the victim was a well-known real estate agent with Coldwell Banker in Trumbull. His manager says that he was a kind man who will be deeply missed by the entire office, as well as his clients.
