A Woodbridge police officer is being celebrated for saving the life of an infant who was choking.

Officer Nicholas Samartino responded to a report of a 5-day-old newborn choking and having trouble breathing.

Upon arrival, Samartino began administering back blows to the infant, followed by suctioning the infant's airways.

Samartino's actions cleared the obstruction from the infant, causing them to cry. The infant was then transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for further treatment.

Woodbridge officials say that the infant's parents credit Samartino's decisive actions with saving their newborn's life.
