A Bridgeport man says he worried that federal changes will threaten his health insurance coverage.
John Olmo, a 54-year-old tax preparer at Moran Agencies in Bridgeport, says he's had 18 surgeries in recent years and has two pacemakers.
"So obviously, I'm worried about all of the changes taking place at the federal level - because I really need my health insurance," Olmo told News 12.
But with Republicans in Congress refusing to extend tax credits past Jan. 1, Olmo's insurance coverage through ConnectiCare, by way of Access Health Connecticut, is likely to change due to projected cost increases, ranging between 12% and 20%.
"It's going to impact me in a big way - and some people could lose their coverage entirely," Olmo said.
Gov. Ned Lamont said Tuesday he's looking for ways to help Connecticut residents whom the changes will impact.
"This is just a really dumb policy coming out of Washington, coming out of this White House, the idea that you're going to jack up the cost of health care. Hey, Merry Christmas - right in time for the holiday season," Lamont said.
