Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim says the city is beginning to repair a security issue in one neighborhood.
Residents discussed an opening in a metal fence between the Sunshine Circle and Trumbull Gardens communities at the North End Community meeting on Thursday.
Police say the broken fence allowed an easy escape for suspects involved in shootings in the area.
Ganim says fixing the fence is the first step toward creating a safer neighborhood.
"This is critically important. The moment you do it you send a powerful message that Bridgeport police care, that they're here and they want to be a part of the community," he says.
Ganim did not say when the fence would be fully repaired.
