Bridgeport mayor: City to crack down on ATVs used in street takeovers

The announcement comes as state lawmakers pass a bill that gives municipalities the power to confiscate and destroy such vehicles.

"The message is going out with the legislation from Hartford that municipalities now can seize these street takeover vehicles, impound them and forfeit them,” said Ganim. “We want a strong message to go out this summer. This is not going to be tolerated, certainly in the state of Connecticut and in Bridgeport in particular."
He added fines could range from $1,000 to $2,000 for people who participate in street takeovers.
