Bridgeport officials announced a crackdown on the illegal use of dirt bikes and ATVs on public streets as spring begins and summer nears.
Mayor Joe Ganim said the move aims to prevent accidents that often lead to injuries or deaths each summer.
Police Chief Roderick Porter noted the difficulty of notifying families after such tragedies and stressed keeping the public safe.
Authorities clarified that off-road use is allowed, but not on city streets.
Ganim urged the community to partner with police in the effort.
