Bridgeport Mayor Joe Gamin is encouraging people to apply for the Renters' Rebate Program.
The program, run by the state, is geared toward helping people on fixed incomes – including seniors and people who are totally disabled – pay their rent.
It applies to people who are renting an apartment, room, living in cooperative housing or a mobile home. Other requirements include having lived in the state for a year.
Ganim says under state law, married couples can receive rebates up to $900 while individuals could receive up to $700.
"I want all of our seniors on fixed incomes who qualify to make sure they get the maximum amount they can to help offset the cost of rent and housing here in Bridgeport and beyond," Gamin says.
Applications will be accepted starting April 1. Appointments are necessary to complete the application process and can be made by calling 203-576-7147 or by emailing Rentersrebate@bridgeportct.gov.
