Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim has announced a plan to bring thousands of new affordable housing units to the city, over the next six years.
He says he'll be delivering an executive order to state lawmakers asking them to earmark money from a state fund, containing hundreds of millions of dollars.
"This executive order, which I will share with the state, puts us in a position to create some 6,000 more units of affordable homes for residents in the City of Bridgeport. I'm hopeful that the state plan will adopt this executive order and allow us to move forward with thousands of more affordable homes as we go forward from now until 2030," Ganim says.
Mayor Ganim says that there is an epidemic lack of affordable housing in Bridgeport and statewide.
He says Stamford issued a similar executive order over the summer.
