The city of Bridgeport is enforcing a parking ban on the odd and even sides of the street for non-emergency roads so crews can plow, leading to a lot of frustrated drivers.
Residents along Capitol Avenue learned Thursday that the street is an emergency snow route so that means both sides of the streets are off limits. Some drivers were ticketed and towed as a result while others like Gomeko Stewart found just a ticket on his car.
"Where do you park?" says Stewart. "And on top of that they are ticketing and towing people. I don't know who that is, but they don't know that they're about to get towed right now. And that's — I'm not gonna lie, it's a lot better than New York, but it is super unfair. Come on, it's a snowstorm. We are stuck here. What are we supposed to do? Where are we supposed to park?"
City officials tell News 12 it's just an unfortunate reality that comes with severe weather.
City officials say any public school parking lot is open for Bridgeport residents to park in until the snow emergency is lifted.
Snow emergency streets are marked with white signs with red lettering. A list of snow streets can be found on the city's website
