Bridgeport mother hopes son's death will raise awareness about teen suicide
A Bridgeport mother is coping with the sudden loss of her teenage son.
Shirelle Gary says her 18-year-old son Antonio Rivera took his own life at the family's home on Laurel Avenue Saturday afternoon.
She says Rivera was depressed about "a family matter. He had nine siblings and a 2-year-old son.
Gary hopes that by sharing her story, she will build awareness about teen suicide and help save lives.
"Keep your eyes open," Gary says. "Look for the warning signs of depression. Just keep your eyes open, please. "
Gary says Rivera was deeply devoted to his son and had a passion for motorcycles.
The family says anyone who wishes to help with funeral and other expenses can call 646-241-1629.
