Bridgeport residents and a city councilwoman say they are worried about flooding in a neighborhood, despite the city's claim that a blocked drain - believed to be the culprit behind past flooding incidents - was cleared.
Although there is no flood zone on Ohio Avenue, residents say they recently experienced flooding and Thursday's expected storm could prove whether the problem in their neighborhood has really been fixed.
Sonia Kirkland, who owns a home on Ohio Avenue in the Upper East Side of the city says she experienced $27,000 in damage when her house flooded during storms on June 30 and July 3.
A piece of Sheetrock inside the home has been cut out to show where the high-water mark was inside of the basement.
Kirkland is now worried about the latest round of severe weather headed towards the region and is bracing for the worst.
City Councilwoman Maria Pereira, who represents the district where Kirkland lives, says a recent report issued by the city claims that debris was blocking a nearby drainage process, but has since been cleaned up - and the problem should be solved.
Pereira and Kirkland say they won’t believe it until they see it.
