Bridgeport nonprofit agency unveils program to fight homelessness
A Bridgeport nonprofit agency is unveiling a new program to fight homelessness.
Anti-poverty agency Action for Bridgeport Community Development seeks to assist the underserved, concentrating its efforts on identifying and eliminating the causes of poverty rather than only dealing with its effects.
Tanya Fields, a grandmother of two, tells News 12 Connecticut that she visited the agency in desperation when she and her family were about to be homeless.

The agency’s director Dr. Monette Ferguson referred Fields to a new program called Home Works.
Fields and her grandsons qualified to move into a brand new apartment in Bridgeport thanks to Home Works.
Ferguson says the assistance is part of a bigger picture.
“We have a situation of homelessness that is an epidemic in early childhood populations and Bridgeport happens to be one of the places where it's hitting us the hardest," says Dr. Monette Ferguson, the agency's new executive director.
