Off the Streets, Bridgeport received a $15,000 emergency grant from state lawmakers.
State Rep. Tony Scott, of Monroe, says it feels great to assist the organization.
"Having a place to stay, having a place to get a warm meal is so valuable right now, more so than any other time of the year, so the fact that this money is coming now at a time that's so key and so important to help those that are in the most need, it does make you feel a little bit better," said Scott.
The nonprofit’s mission is to provide security deposits so people who are struggling with homelessness can get a roof over their heads.
The head of the Off the Streets nonprofit says the money couldn't come at a better time.
"This is wonderful because we have six people lined up right now to receive security deposits, which will take them out of their cars and living on the streets and put them into an apartment," said Gerard Agoglia.
Officials say the money will go quickly, and the nonprofit is still in need of assistance.
