A disabled couple in Bridgeport is facing the possibility of becoming homeless.

Lisa Wikos, 42, suffers from spina bifida and has been in a wheelchair her whole life. Her husband Michael, also 42, has muscular dystrophy. They say they have never been able to find disability housing.

The couple has been staying with a friend who is planning to move soon. They say they won't have a place to live and they can't imagine living on the street.

"I get frustrated, I get very frustrated because I really need my own place," Lisa says.

News 12 Connecticut helped put Lisa in contact with Doug Werner, who is part of the nonprofit group Tiny Home Initiative that hopes to fill vacant lots in Bridgeport with small, but high-quality pre-manufactured houses.

The group is looking to solve the shortage of affordable housing for seniors, veterans and people with disabilities.

Werner says he's starting a $50,000 fundraiser to build Lisa and her husband the first tiny house in Bridgeport.
