Bridgeport police are asking for the public's help identifying three people captured on camera breaking into six vehicles in a Fairfield Avenue parking lot Monday night.
"This is just the latest case in an ongoing problem here in Bridgeport," said Lt. Angelo Collazo, of the Bridgeport Police Department.
"We are seeing a lot of smash-and-grabs -- where people break out car windows, grab whatever they can and then move on to the next place," Collazo said.
Police say the three people seen breaking into cars on Fairfield Avenue could be responsible for many of the recent break-ins.
"They often steal a car and use it to commit these crimes - and this one group could be responsible for a lot of these break-ins," Collazo said.
Health care worker Carol Gray says her car was broken into last year.
"It's a very devastating feeling because you come down to go to work and, in my case, the ignition lock was broken out, so I couldn't go anywhere," Gray said.
Police encourage drivers to park in areas that are well lit and covered by security cameras.
"And don't leave your belongings -- stuff like phones, iPads, wallets -- out in the open where people can see them; or better yet, don't leave any valuables in the vehicle at all," Collazo said.
If you can help police identify the white sedan, or the 3 suspects seen in the surveillance video, you're asked to call 203- 576-TIPS.
