Bridgeport Police Officer Chris Compolattaro has been on the job for only one year -- but long enough to know how to save a life.
"It felt good to help somebody in distress -- but I was just doing what any Bridgeport police officer would have done in the same situation," Compolattaro said Thursday.
Compolattaro responded to Main and Bank streets Wednesday night, where he came upon a man who had been critically injured in a shooting on nearby I-95 a short time earlier, officials said.
"I applied a tourniquet after he suffered what appeared to be an arterial bleed to his leg," Compolattaro said.
The victim was then rushed to a local trauma center where he remained in critical condition as of Thursday.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting -- which is being investigated by Connecticut State Police -- remain unclear.
